Mike Conley's 20th season, and why Boston wanted him
A one-year veteran minimum deal for a steady hand behind Derrick White and Payton Pritchard.
Mike Conley is about to start his 20th NBA season, and he'll do it in Boston. The veteran guard signed a one-year deal at the veteran minimum, which pays him $3,876,529 but counts only $2,449,421 against the cap.
What he did last season
With Minnesota in 2025-26, Conley played 54 games and 18.4 minutes a night, averaging 4.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He shot 33.5% from the field and 90.0% from the free-throw line.
Where he fits
Boston's guard rotation already runs through Derrick White and Payton Pritchard, who played 34.1 and 32.4 minutes a night last season. Conley is depth behind them. He started the preseason opener in Cleveland, playing 18 minutes with three points and four assists.
What to watch
- How many minutes he takes from the second unit when the rotation settles.
- Whether he plays alongside White or Pritchard, or replaces one of them.
- His contract expires after this season.
